Question
What should you do with a participant that is too talkative?
Answer
Resistance within a group shows itself in different ways. One of them is a participant being too talkative, which might block other participants from speaking up.
It is important to make sure you remain patient and acknowledge everyone’s contributions
We spoke about timeboxes before: make sure you have your timebox set for every step in the process. You might also want to consider setting a timebox for individual participants.
Make sure you point out the fact that you do not hear some participants and encourage everyone to speak up.
Look around, nod and make eye contact with all participants, especially those you want to motivate to share their stories.
In case you explored all the suggestions above, a final option is to speak to the talkative participant one-on-one and share how they are impacting the group.
